Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, William Britton “Britt” Howard, went to be with his Lord on November 10th. He was born June 8th, 1937 in Goshen, Alabama to Norman and Kathleen Howard.
Britt is survived by his wife, Jan Cooper Howard; his children, Russ (and Jennifer) Howard, Lynda (and Rick) Knotts, and Holli Oliver; his grandchildren, Matt, Alyse, Andrew, Katie, Rachel, Hannah, Grace, Sam, Claire, Will, and Griffin; and his eight great grandchildren. Britt is predeceased by his son Craig Hill, his sister Harriet Ball, and his brother Samuel Howard.
Britt was raised in Dawson, Georgia and graduated from Terrell County High School in 1955. He attended Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida to play basketball for two years, and attended Troy State University for one year. Britt was a natural salesman; he started with Kimberly-Clarke and later worked in the food brokerage business for many years. He worked diligently to establish the Howard Food Brokerage Company and later merged with Marketing Specialists. The foundation of Britt’s life was integrity, faith, and family.
Britt was a faithful member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church, he served as Board Chairman for several years for the Alabama Chapter of the National Kidney Foundation, and was also President and board member for the Montgomery Chapter of Optimist Club. Britt loved being outside and was an avid bird hunter and fisherman. But to be honest, it wasn't about the hunt, it was about being with the people he loved. Friends and family were what gave Britt joy. And we can't forget the dogs. Britt was widely known for his love of his “bud” dogs.
Britt’s legacy and greatest love is family. He never met a stranger and built strong and enduring friendships, always seeking to establish a connection with everyone he met. Nothing made him happier than time to talk and be together. This love is what binds us together. We have great hope and peace that he is in the presence of Jesus. We know he is in a place of great peace and joy and we can't wait to be with him again. His is indeed a life worth celebrating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Eastern Hills Baptist Church Memorial Fund in Britt’s name.
There will be an informal opportunity to visit with family in the Reception Room at Eastern Hills Baptist Church on Tuesday evening from 5-7pm.
