William Jarome (Joel) Roper, Jr. was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on June 1, 1947 to William Jarome Sr. and Ruby Ivey Roper. He passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Baptist East Hospital after a brief illness. William Jarome (Joel) Roper, Jr. graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965. Attended Auburn University for two years and was a big War Eagle football fan. Joel served in the United States Air Force until 1972, having served tour of duties during the Vietnam War. He also worked for the State of Alabama until his retirement in 2011. Joel then moved to Camp Hill, Alabama until 2013. William Jarome (Joel) Roper, Jr. was preceded in death by his Father, William Jarome Roper, Sr.; brother, Ivey Leon Roper; nephew, Stephen Lamar Roper, Sr.; grandparents, Austin and Cora Roper, Charles and Martha Ivey. He is survived by his mother, Ruby Ivey Roper; nieces, Dianne Roper Orlando (Tony), Sandra Roper Hughins, both from Green Bay, Wisconsin; a very special Aunt, Jeanette Ivey Chitwood; first cousin, Martha Downs Halloway (Robert), both from Barnesville, Georgia; a very special friend and like a Brother to Joel, Chris High (Judy), from Camp Hill, Alabama; and numerous nieces, cousins, nephews and good friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of choice. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
