Wendell Cauley, 63, of Wetumpka, lost an all too brief battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital . He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Bilee, and his much loved sister, Mary (Cissy) Cates of Huntsville. He is also survived by his beloved nephews and nieces, and great nieces and great nephews, all of whom would say he was a great uncle, and by many other beloved relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodham Wendell Cauley, Sr., and Beatrice Pearson Cauley. Wendell was born August 17, 1950,in Opelika and attended Indian Springs School in Birmingham. He graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he and Bilee met, and then attended the University of Alabama School of Law, where he obtained both his juris doctorate and an LL.M. in Taxation. A member of the Alabama State Bar for 36 years, Wendell worked in the Attorney General's office in the Consumer Utilities Division before entering private practice. A partner at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, LLP, at the time of his death, Wendell enjoyed the challenge of his work. He also enjoyed cycling, but his bicycles were vintage steel, not high-tech carbon, and he had many friends in the cycling community in Montgomery. Wendell had many friends in all walks of life--he touched everyone he came in contact with with his good and generous spirit and his kind and happy heart. He was a fixture in the Blue Ridge neighborhood, where for almost 30 years he could be seen early each morning walking one or more of the dogs he loved over the years, including Ladybug, who will miss him very much. He was an active member of Capitol Heights United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday School, and a member of the Montgomery Sunrise Rotary Club. Memorial donations may be made to the Capitol Heights United Methodist Church, 2000 Winona Avenue, Montgomery, Alabama 36107, or to your favorite charity.
