Arlene Brenda Thompson, 84, passed away on March 24th, 2026 at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Montreal. Born on June 10, 1941 in Campbellton, New Brunswick, Arlene was the daughter of the late Austin Alexander Thompson and the late Ora Grace (McDavid) Thompson. She was also predeceased by her brother Gary Thompson and sister-in-law Barbara (Grant) Thompson.
Arlene spent her childhood in both Campbellton and Woodstock New Brunswick. After graduating from Woodstock High School, Arlene pursued a career in nursing and ultimately moved to Montreal where she worked for over 25 years at the Montreal General Hospital as the Nurse Manager of the Dialysis Unit. While loved by both her colleagues and patients, she decided to pursue a second career and returned to school to receive her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Library Sciences from Concordia University in Montreal. As an avid reader, this allowed her the opportunity to work in a field that was close to her heart.
Arlene’s other passion was traveling with her friends. Her travels initially took her to Greece, specifically the island of Paxos, where she made long lasting relationships with some of the local residents. After multiple trips to Paxos in the 70’s and 80’s she expanded her horizons and began traveling to destinations in Europe, the Caribbean and Central America. This culminated in a 72 day cruise where she ultimately circumnavigated the globe.
Arlene enjoyed many close friends, who were always there for her during various health challenges. While never shy to share her opinion, she valued the thoughts and feelings of others and was a true friend to many. Spending time with her friends, whether on a trip or for a meal at a restaurant, was important to her.
Between world travel and meals with friends, Arlene would frequently spend time with family in New Brunswick. Along with her nephew Mark and his wife Joan, she loved spending time with her great nephew Spencer and her great niece Erica, who referred to her as Gaga. Her family was very important to her, as she was to them. She will be greatly missed by both her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Burial will take place in Woodstock, New Brunswick. For those who wish, donations can be made to your local library or a charity of the donor’s preference. Personal condolences can be sent to www.dignitymemorial.com.
