It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Benito Garzia, at the age of 88, on October 18, 2025. Born on December 22, 1936, in Mirabello Sannitico, Campobasso, Italy, to Luciano and Florinda. Benito lived a long and fulfilling life marked by love, laughter, and dedication to family.
Beloved husband of Elvira, devoted father to Corrado (Lisa), Luciano (Badia), and Bruno (Diana). Cherished grandfather of Juliano (Hailey), Dante (Natalie), Massimiliano, Alessia, and Malak. Dear brother of Salvatore (the late Rita), and predeceased by his twin brother Pasquale (Pasqualina), Carmela (the late Pasquale), Lidia, and Father Gianni. As well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.
A skilled mechanic by trade, Benito had an incredible talent for fixing anything he could get his hands on. He never threw anything away without first seeing if it could be repaired, a reflection of his patience and resourceful nature. Outside of work, Benito found joy in travelling, singing in the church choir, and spending precious time with his wife and family.
Benito will be remembered for his warm smile, his joyful spirit, and his love of good conversation—especially about history, geography and politics. He touched the lives of everyone he met with kindness and genuine curiosity.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to his cousin Maria Rosaria and niece Lina, godchild Flora, family friends Mina and Sandro Fabrizi, Robert Casarcia, Elizabeth Jacobson, and Jeanne Dumont, whose care, kindness, and support over the past few months brought great comfort to Benito and his family.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Homes, 5610 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, Quebec H4A 1W5 on Wednesday, October 29, from 2:00–5:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Ste-Catherine de Sienne Church, 7070 Somerled Ave, Montreal, Quebec H4V 1V9 followed by interment at Cote-des-Neiges Cemetery.
Benito’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
