Caterina Maio

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Caterina Pietromonaco (née Maio) on April 25th,, 2025 at the age of 92. Her early years were in Vinchiaturo, Italy during World War II. She emigrated to Canada in the early 1950s as the bride of Michele Pietromonaco, who predeceased her in 1989. A wonderful cook and homemaker, Caterina also worked a variety of jobs helping her children pursue their education and subsequent careers.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Sal (Carolyn), Mary (Pasquale) and Antoinette (Piero). She will be missed by her beloved grandchildren, Pamela (Robert), Marco (Lucia), Stephen and cherished great grandchildren Matteo, Daniella and Michael.

She is fondly remembered by all her extended family and friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr April Shamy and her team at the JGH for their care and dedication over the years.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Caterina’s name to the JGH Hematology department would be greatly appreciated to help them continue to help others like Caterina.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, located at 4525 ch. de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, QC, H3V1E7, Canada. Condolences will be received on May 22, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by the funeral service from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in the Chapel at the same location.
