Cecilia Cooke Joseph

(nee Cooke)

Age 80, of Montreal, died peacefully July 1, 2017. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Harrison Thomas Joseph “Harry”, and brothers Kibe Itiaba (Julianna) and Richard Cooke. Cecilia is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children, stepson Harrison Monroe Joseph (Pauline), daughters, Lucy-Ann Joseph (Alfonso) and Julia Joseph-Di Caprio (Fernando), and son Hogie Joseph (Darci). She was a proud grandmother to Simone, Anthony, Cecilia, Matthew, Francesco, Sean, and Harrison. Cecilia is also survived by her siblings, Earle Cooke (Hilary), David Cooke (Mavis), Fay McKenzie (the late Lloyd McKenzie), Tommy Cooke (Beverly), and Joyce Cooke, as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Cecilia’s compassionate and dedicated caregivers at the Jewish Eldercare Centre.

Cecilia was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica and received a degree in nursing from the Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in 1960, after which she had a long and distinguished nursing career in Canada and the United States. Cecilia loved learning and in 1995, after retiring from nursing, earned a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University. She was also an avid reader, and an accomplished seamstress and knitter. Along with her wonderful passion for excellence, she was a kind, caring and good friend to many.

Visitation will be Monday, July 10, 2017 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Centre funéraire Côte-Des-Neiges, 4525 Côte-Des-Neiges Road, Montreal, (514) 342-8000. The funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Ascension of Our Lord, 375 Kitchener Avenue, Westmount, (514) 932-3131.
