David was born in Cape Town, South Africa, to Leonard and May Freeman. He emigrated to London, England in 1954, where he worked as an accountant for Covent Garden Opera Company, and where he met Betty. They arrived in Montreal in 1960 and David worked as an accountant for Canadian National Railways before joining the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. After 21 years, he retired from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital as Financial Comptroller.
David’s encyclopedic knowledge included books, classical and light operatic music, the Westmount Historical Society, the Royal Commonwealth Society, and especially ships, among his many interests. He will be sadly missed by the extended Le Maistre family, and by friends in Montreal and New Carlisle, QC, but most deeply by his beloved and loving Betty.
A visitation will be held at Collins, Clarke, MacGillivray, White, 5610 Sherbrooke St West, on Sunday, November 7, from 1:00 to 3:00, followed by a ceremony of remembrance and a reception. Owing to Covid-19 restrictions, the remembrance ceremony must be restricted to 50 people. Interment of the ashes will occur in New Carlisle, QC in the summer of 2022.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in David’s memory to the Montreal Neurological Institute or to a charity of your choice.
