November 27, 1932 – August 3, 2024
Eleanor Cripps (nee Lambert) of Westmont, Montreal, daughter of the late Reginald and Eleanor (Bailey) sadly passed away on August 3, 2024. She was loved and will be missed by her loving son Kevin and her daughter in law Janet (Lunan) and their family.
Eleanor, known by many as “Snooks” , the name of a radio comedy baby of her day, lead a quiet but exemplary life. At 92, like many women of her generation, she was impacted by The Great Depression and The Second World War and had plenty of pluck, perhaps something like character nickname. Eleanor’s spirit was strong, courageous and tough, and yet sentimental and soft.
A life long resident of Westmont, she was a working mom, and was employed by Standard Life Insurance. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and also at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, where she truly shone. She took the bus well into her eighties and put in many hours soothing and rocking numerous premature infants in the neo-natal unit.
Her love for children was felt by those in her own family. She kept a drawer full of birthday cards and money in her drawer, ready to send out and never missed a birthday. And there were a lot of birthdays! Of course her most favourite birthday was her adored son Kevin’s. She looked forward to Kevin’s visits, second only to Charlie’s, who knew Eleanor kept a ball and special treats for him in her closet!
Eleanor aka “Snooks” was part of a travel group, and enjoyed regaling her many adventures. One of her greatest penchants in life, apart from children, was chocolate, something her daughter in law can relate!
So many in the apartment where Elanor lived have expressed what a kind person she was and that they will miss her, especially her dear friends, Louise and Suzanne.
According to her wishes, there will be no funeral. Her final resting place will be in Ontario. The family will host a celebration of life and burial in her honor at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family.
