Mrs. Ellen Joyce

Ellen passed away peacefully in her sleep at Columbia House Care Home in Invermere, British Columbia, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the age of 90. In her final days, her 3 children spent hours sitting by her side and holding her hand.

Ellen enjoyed travelling, watching football, playing tennis, reading, entertaining and going for walks. She will be remembered for her grace, generosity, kindness, youthful energy, deep lasting friendships and the incredible mother, daughter, sister and wife that she was.

Born August 22, 1935, in Montreal and lived there until February 2024, when she moved to British Columbia to be cared for by her 3 children.

Ellen was a devoted mother, sister, nana, and great-nana. She will be dearly missed by her 3 children: Judy Rowland, Steven Rowland (Karen) and Bruce Rowland (Ginette); her grandchildren: Nicole (Andy), Stephanie (Mike), Alexis, Sarah and Wyatt; and her great-grandchildren: Nate, Owen, Alijha and Alya.

Ellen will be deeply missed by her sister and best friend, Joan Burrows (Ken) and her children Wayne, Scott and Kim; with whom she shared a special bond over the years that no one could break. The 2 sisters were reunited in British Columbia in her final years.

Ellen is survived by her stepchildren: Judith Kalil (Frank) and John Kalil (Rita), her step-grandchildren, as well as many other family, and friends.

Ellen was predeceased by her husband of nearly 40 years, the love of her life, Edward Kalil (June 2025), and by her parents, Harry Joyce and Jean Tutor.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday May 7th from 11am-2pm at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Homes, 5610 Rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, Quebec.
