I was very sorry to hear the sad news about Erich.  I am sure all the extensive circle of long-time tennis friends are thinking of you and your family at this time.

My deepest condolences. I distinctly remember very fond memories of Linke Island as a child, having Erich drive us around on a boat he knew so well. He even let me drive it. He was a great man and he will be missed. Sending love to his family during this difficult time.

We habe fond memories of you and Erich, when we( Sigrid, Susanne and Martin) met you and Erich in April 2001 in Montréal.
You were so kind and offered us to stay for some days in your home, you showed us so many things in and around Montréal.
 And in 2018/2019 when my daughter Amelie spent one year next to Rigaud with a hostfamily,you both were so kind to meet her and spent some time with her!
Now, we are so sorry to hear of Erich`s passing.

Dear Michelle, Mark and Derek,

I remember as a kid Erich making me laugh. One joke I particularly remember is "Believe it, butter" about "I can't believe it's not butter" ;) I also shared your dad's fondness for dogs, and was always excited to pet Grendel and "Starrie-Larrie". Your dad and his family were also my first introduction to all things German :) I heard Erich was not always easy, but with me he was smiling and charming.

My sympathies to all of you. Michelle, you have my admiration for taking care of Erich through all his years of illness.

All your Pickleball friends were very sad to hear of Erich's passing.   We all felt your love and devotion for Erich during the past few years.  We have missed seeing and playing with you Michelle but understood your circumstances.      We're sending you lots of love and hope you know how much we care about you.

Dear Michelle,

meeting Erich and You  on the Freighter Transgermania from Hamburg to Montreal  in September 1966 was the beginning of a lifelong friendship which had a significant impact on my life. When you and Erich told me during our  arrival in Montreal that I could call you when I needed help, I was not aware of the significance of this kind offer. But only a week or so later I called you to tell you that my accommodation was – to put it mildly – a disaster. From that moment on , my life outside my studies at McGill was like a dream. You treated me like a member of our family on a daily basis in Montreal and during the weekends at the lake. There I would eat enough for the whole next week. Because with just 200 dollar per month I was on a very limited budget. Under Erich`s guidance I learned to understand life in Canada from all its aspects; private as well as business oriented.  
Erich had a strong and impressive character, was target oriented, determined and adapted to this „new world“ as a young man with your understanding, help and dedication.

Your family – especially on those days at the Lake – for me was like a dream
with those different personalities over four generations. And Finchley 45 was like a home address for me with your father from time to time. You remember the party you and Erich gave for my whole McGill class in your family home.
This closeness never changed. It is not possible to sum up a lifelong friendship like ours. Even after I left Montreal, the feeling to be together prevailed. We have „stayed close“ not just for the meetings we had from time to time in Darmstadt, Berlin or Montreal, but also in between without having a permanent direct contact. Deep mutual understanding kept us together over time and space.

Now he has gone. But he will – for the rest of our life – live in our memory!

Remember the good times we had at Mirabel and all the other places playing tennis. You were a patient teacher, unfortunately I never reached your level of play. You were at all times a fair and competitive player, but not just on the tennis court. You were a perfectionist , only black or white existed for you, nothing in between. You were a great host. My family enjoyed the vacation at your country property. We don't  want to forget the parties at your D.D.O house for your birthday or at Xmas time. Because of your sickness I was not able to see you that often. You did not give in to your illness, you were fighting right to the end.  That was our Erich!
You came only with one suit case of hope and ambitions to Canada. My friend, your family can be proud of your achievement.

Eric is a dear friend of our family.  2010 We went together to a once of a life time safari in Kneya and Tanzannia and Zanzibar. We knew he had some sort of pain, however, he insisted sitting in the front of the jeep, held his back streight, went through pretty rough unpaved road. He always greeted us with big smile and loud laughters. During the  past few years, whenever we had chance to visit west island, he always wants to come down from his bedroom greeted us with big smile. Eric, You will be  forever missed.
