Genevieve Symonds

SYMONDS, Genevieve Marie - passed away peacefully in her sleep and went home to glory on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the age of 87. Born in Upper Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia on May 29, 1934, daughter of George and Madeline (Francis) Symonds.

Genevieve was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Symonds and her parents, George and Madeline Symonds. She was the last surviving sibling of seven children. Predeceased by her sisters: Loretta Lucas, Thelma Marsman, Georgina Parsons, brothers: Rev. Calvin Symonds, Elwood Marsman and Victor Symonds.

She is survived by her seven children: Rev. Sherry, Dartmouth, NS; Clara, Montreal, QC; Rena (Lonnie), Fort Lauderdale, FL; Juliet (Brian), Saint John, NB; Helen (Burton), Pointe Claire, QC; Heather, Mississauga, ON and Ivan, Montreal, QC. Survived by nine grandchildren – Tamara (Rev. Mark), Felisha (Damon), Zan (Erika), Chaz (Michelle), Tyrone (Melissa), John, Travis (Dana), Janelle and Desmond. Survived by fourteen great grandchildren – Kara, Bianca, Tiara, Jaden, Christian, Alexxa, Aryana, Leah, Jamien, Jaylah, Mia, Josiah, Braxley and Miles. Genevieve will be lovingly remembered by several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, dear friends and special neighbours of over fifty years, Eileen Collins, the late Margaret Collins and the late Dorothy Collins. Mama was the Matriarch of our family and will be tremendously missed by all. Mama was well-known, loved, admired, respected; a pillar in the community.The family would like to thank each and every one of you for all the love, kindness and support throughout the years.The family would like to give special thanks to the Father Dowd Residence, Dr. Margaret Hughes, Giovanna Fillion (AHN) and all the staff on the third floor for caring for our mother.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cote-des-Neiges Funeral Centre (Dignity Memorial), 4525 Cote-des-Neiges, Montreal, Quebec (514) 342-8000.

Visitations Tuesday, April 12 from 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm and Wednesday, April 13 from 10:00am to 11:45am. Celebration of Life Homegoing Service will be held at Snowdon Baptist Church, 5275 Earnscliffe Avenue, Montreal, Quebec (514) 486-9860, where Genevieve was a member for many years, on April 13 from 12:30pm to 2pm.
