Joan Patricia Anne (Mainguy) Westra

Passed away peacefully November 20, 2018 at 1:10pm at St Mary’s Hospital in Montreal at the age of 79 following a 3 year battle with cancer. Daughter of William Francis Mainguy and Dorothy Ethel Neeve, she is survived by her loving husband, Hendrik Westra, brother William “Bill” Mainguy (Lana), her son Frederik Westra (Elizabeth) and two grandchildren, Aidan and Alex.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, loved by all who knew her. She lived a full life in Montreal where she was born, though she traveled extensively throughout Europe and South America. She was an accomplished athlete in her youth, excelling in skiing (as a ski instructor and part of the Penguin Ski Club), swimming, water skiing and basketball. She was a gifted artist, and studied under Arthur Lismer at the Musée des Beaux-Arts. She was a fond lover of animals. She was always positive and found and brought joy to all those around her. She faced her final days with courage and grace, always smiling and cheerful. She will be forever in our hearts. Special thanks to the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for their compassionate care. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 28 from 7pm to 9pm at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 5610 Sherbrooke St West, Montreal, QC. Funeral Service on Thursday, November 29 at 11am in the Funeral Home Chapel (with condolences 1 hour prior). Final resting place at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, ON at a later date.
