It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jonathan Joseph Robinson who passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 30, 2023. Born in Montreal on June 11th, 1929 to the late Antonia Robinson and the late Benjamin Robinson; beloved husband of Nicole Laflamme; former spouse of Carmen Robinson; father and father-in-law of Andrea Robinson and Jonathan Talamo, Nanette Robinson and Rick Goss, William Robinson and Sydney Warshaw, and Michele Robinson; brother and brother-in-law of Elaine Waddington, and David Z. Robinson and the late Nan Senior; grandfather and grandfather-in-law of Erica and David, Rachel, Anthony, Olivia, Ara, and Jonathan, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews all of whom are beyond grateful to have benefitted from his joy, humour, and unmatched storytelling abilities.
Jon will also be missed by countless friends and colleagues in his community, where he worked as a lawyer at Robinson Sheppard Shapiro for 70 years. He will be remembered for his creativity and brilliance by all who encountered him and the diligence, respect, and knowledge he shared with the many lawyers he mentored which has, and will live on, through generations to come. Serious only about the important things in life, many will also remember him as a lover of animals, a bon vivant, an indulger in delicious meals (smoked meat in particular), good wine, travel, and games, a first and enduring fan of the Montreal Expos. A skilled golfer and pinball player, a prolific crossword puzzler, a word gamer, and championship bridge player, Jon was playing bridge with his friends and boggle with his family until the very end.
Jon had many indulgences, but his greatest was his family. He was blessed with many who loved him and whom he loved more than anything. His presence on Ogunquit beach, surrounded by family, telling a joke or singing along with a cousin will never be forgotten.
While his health deteriorated over the last few years, his spirit and enthusiastic attitude never did. Everyone who visited him was struck by his incredible optimism and enduring gratitude for life. He was a model for many, and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
