Kathleen was born in Montreal, the second oldest of seven siblings. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Len MacDonald, her parents John and Julia (Dunn) Tansey, her brother Kevin Tansey and her sister Theresa Tansey St. Louis (André Sauvé). She and Len were also “parents” to Amanda, Sarah and Chelsy Hart and Eddy Proulx. She is survived by four siblings: Mary Tansey Shaw (Richard) of Calgary, Noreen Tansey Lee (Don) of Sutton, Quebec, Lawrence (Larry) (Kit Malo) of Montreal, and Patricia Tansey Wright (Randall deceased) of Banning, California; beloved niece of Myron and Ruth Dunn; and mourned by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal friends.
Kathleen began her illustrious career as a teacher in Quebec City and then Montreal and obtained her B.A. from Loyola College, her B. Ed. and M.A. from University of Montreal and her LL.B and BCL from McGill University. She worked with Robinson Sheppard Shapiro and later practiced labour law as a sole practitioner.
She was a strong advocate for her clients and many different causes including constitutional language rights in Canada, active support of the Liberal Party and a defender of minorities.
Kathleen loved children and was always ready to tell her younger cousins, her many nieces and nephews stories from her own childhood or made-up tales full of amazing characters.
A celebration of life mass will be held at St Ignatius of Loyola Parish, 4455 West Broadway, Montreal on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
