Lilia Sylvia Damiani-Martini

At the age of 98, died peacefully, in her sleep,

at the Sunrise de Fontainebleau Retirement

Home in Blainville, Quebec, on November 12,

2013.

She was born in Montreal, Quebec on

June 20, 1915, the first born of Sabbatino

Damiani and Luigia Fabrizzi. Her passing

follows that of her beloved husband of 64

years Dr. T. A. (Terry) Martini, her brothers

Tullio and Orlando, and her sister, Vilma

Fontana. Lilia is survived by her sister Bruna

Cassani, daughter Janie L. Martini-Bowers

(Michael) sons, John T. Martini and Ronald J.

Martini (Erica) grandchildren Caitilin R.

Martini-Kamaris (Christian), Leila Martini,

David Martini, Laura Martini, Sarah Martini,

Tara Bowers-Van Huele (Rene), Jaye Bowers,

Jennifer Martini-McQuaid (Roy), John

Martini, JR. (Francis) and five great grandchildren

Alec, Drew, Kyria, Kaylin and

Carmelo. Educated at Our Lady of Defense

School, the Sisters of the Congregation of

Notre-Dame Secretarial College, and the Villa

Maria, Lilia lived most of her adult life in

Tampa, Florida, where she was active in a

number of charitable and social

organizations. For over 35 years she was in

the Rotary Ann's of Ybor City, and president

for two terms, the Tampa Women's Club, the

Tampa Catholic Women's Club, and the Davis

Island's Garden Club, where she worked with

the flowers she loved. Lilia was most proud of

her 10-year tenure in the Children's Home

Society, where she was its President for two

terms. Lilia was also a painter, recognized on

several occasions for her art.

Above all,however, she was a Mother,

homemaker and wife.

The family will receive friends from 9:00

to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 21 at

the Centre Funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525,

ch. De la Côte-des-Neiges. A Mass will be

celebrated at St. Monica's Catholic Church,

6405, rue de Terrebonne, Montreal, from

12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at

La Pieta, Côte-des-Neiges Cemetery, 4601

ch. De la Côte-des-Neiges, with refreshments

afterwards at the funeral home.

Lilia would prefer that, instead of flowers,

contributions be made to the Alzheimer

Le 12 novembre 2013, à l’âge de

98 ans, est décédée dans son sommeil,

Madame Lilia Sylvia Damiani-Martini,

à la résidence Sunrise de Fontainebleau

de Blainville, Québec.

Elle est née à Montréal, le 20 juin 1915,

fille aînée de Sabbatino Damiani et de

Luigia Fabrizzi. Elle rejoint son époux

Terry Martini, ses frères Tullio Damiani

et Orlando Damiani ainsi que sa soeur

Vilma Fontana.

Lilia laisse dans le deuil sa soeur Bruna

Cassani, sa fille Janie L. Martini-Bowers

(Michael), ses fils John T. Martini et

Ronald J. Martini (Erica), ses petits-enfants

Caitilin R. Martini-Kamaris

cinq arrière-petits-enfants Alec, Drew,

Kyria, Kaylin et Carmelo.

Après avoir fait ses études à l’école

Notre-Dame de la Défense, chez les

soeurs de la Congrégation de Notre-

Dame et la Villa Maria, Lilia a passé la

majeure partie de sa vie d’adulte à

Tampa en Floride, où elle a travaillé

activement au sein d’organisations

sociales et caritatives.

Pendant 35 ans, elle a fait partie de

Rotary Ann’s of Ybor City, dont elle a

assuré la présidence pendant deux ans,

du Tampa Women’s Club, du Tampa

Catholic Women’s Club, et du Davis

Island’s Garden Club, où elle a eu le

plaisir de travailler avec les fleurs

qui lui étaient si chères. Lilia était

particulièrement fière de la décennie

qu’elle a passé au Children’s Home

Society, dont elle a été la présidente

pendant deux mandats.

Lilia était également une artiste-peintre,

dont le travail a été reconnu à plusieurs

reprises. Mais, plus que tout, Lilia était

une mère au foyer et une épouse.

11 h 30. Une messe sera célébrée en sa

mémoire à 12 h, en l’église Sainte-

Monica, 6405, rue de Terrebonne,

Montréal. L’inhumation aura lieu à La Pieta,

au cimetière Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, 4601,

chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges et sera

suivie par un goûter au centre funéraire.
