Louis A. Gaal

October 7, 1947 – July 22, 2020
Obituary of Louis A. Gaal
IN THE CARE OF

Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges

Louis Attila Gaal

Entered into eternal rest on Monday July 22, 2020, at his home in Montreal. He will be sorely missed by his sister Aniko Gaal and brother-in-law Nash Whitney Schott; His cousins in Budapest, Hungary, Marianne Szalmas, Mihaly and Endre Filo, and their dear families, as well as many second cousins.

As important to him were his special Montreal friends, with whom he had deep connections.

The son of Lajos Kornel Gaal and Irene Filo (de Hanzely), Mr. Gaal was born in Budapest, Hungary. As a nine-year-old child, he and his family escaped from Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian uprising against communism. Settled in Montreal, he attended Sacre Coeur de Rigaud’s Exclusive French Boarding School and later went onto College de Longueil. After a journey to Vancouver, Canada, he returned to Montreal to work at the Physical Science Library of McGill University from where he retired after 30 years. He loved classical music, had an insatiable curiosity for life, was a voracious reader, and his favorite sport was actively participating in the Stock Market.

We are deeply saddened by his sudden departure, yet know, that he now flies with the angels. You are sorely missed, my dear little brother.

A memorial service will be held at a later time at the Notre Dame de Cote-Des-Neiges Cemetery.
