Father, athlete, academic, educator, traveler, friend, brother, and son, Louis Phillip Belle-Isle lived a full life. He was generous, proud, curious, active, and adventurous.
He was an achiever who did everything to the best of his ability and dabbled in many diverse interests, including stained glass, Egyptology, creative writing, chocolate making, baking, wood carving, and photography.
He started working as a respiratory therapist at St-Mary’s Hospital in Montreal, and later developed the Respiratory and Anesthesia Technology Program at Vanier College, where he enjoyed a long career and involvement with the Vanier community. His career in respiratory therapy, education, and curriculum development also saw him working for 3M and as a private consultant with his company Breath-by-Breath. While working full-time, he earned his Masters of Education at the University of Sherbrooke.
Louis was an accomplished athlete: a ski instructor and a competitive runner and cyclist. He was involved in the early days of mountain bike racing as a member and coach of Team GT, was a rep for local bike helmet company Leader Helmets, and could be seen biking year-round in Montreal.
He traveled the world, exploring most of Canada (with a soft spot for Newfoundland), the UK, Egypt, and Europe, and lived in Saudi Arabia for months at a time where he worked as a consultant for a private hospital. A passionate environmentalist, he was happiest outdoors and had a deep appreciation for nature.
Beloved father of Jordan-na Crystal Belle-Isle (Mark Orchard), brother of Louise, Diane, and Nicole, uncle of Julien, and son of Louis Sr. and Lise.
Louis passed away on January 9 in his home in Ville Saint-Laurent. There will be a ceremony celebrating his life at the Centre Funeraire Cotes-des-Neiges on Friday, January 19 from 2-3pm, followed by a reception on-site. All are welcome.
