

Born on September 3, 1921 in Cornwall, Ontario to Ida Keough and Joseph Haley Lewis, Mary was the second of four children. Her siblings include Mary Agnes (May), Catherine (Kay) and Bernard (Bernie).
Mary passed away peacefully on July 16, 2013 at the CHSLD Centre Henri Bradet in Montreal after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Loving wife of the late Richard Joseph Bell (1915-1981), she is survived by her sister May, her four children Carol Bell-Riley, Linda (Nick Serpone), David (Carole), and Richard (Caroll); her four grandchildren Shane, Caterina (Trina), Jason, and Lindsey and three great grand children, Isabella, Jackson and Emma.
She grew up in Verdun and graduated from D’Arcy McGee High School in Montreal. She played softball for the Verdun Shamrocks where she met her future husband Richard, the team coach.
After high school she worked at Ogilvy’s Department Store in the payroll department and later at the Sun Life Insurance Company of Canada in its Dominion Square headquarters – the first Montreal downtown office tower.
Mary was a volunteer for many years in Cote St. Luc. She visited the elderly at the Griffith McConnell Home, and served on the Altar and Telephone Committees of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Richard’s Parish. She practiced meditation daily. She loved music, singing and dancing. She had a gentle spirit and a radiant smile. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will take place at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White on Sunday July 21, 2013 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. A chapel service will be held at 2:30 pm followed by a reception at 3:15 pm
