I just learned about Mike's death a moment ago, after having wondered why I hadn't read any of his funny quips on items posted on Facebook, for so long.  I'm devastated.  We first met as campers at Camp Nominingue, and later worked as counselors there.  We reconnected a few years ago, and one fine evening a few years back, met for drinks in downtown Montreal.  Laughing and laughing, reminiscing, and carrying on.  So much bloody fun that evening was.  He talked about his beloved Julie and his two boys.  Sincere condolences to them and to all his friends.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Michael at Autodesk. He was one of my first mentors. He was never overt about supporting you and he always had a coy way of showing his encouragement but there was never a doubt about his integrity and kindness. You have been blessed to have him in your life. I am sure you are torn apart with this sudden turn of events. Never doubt that he is still with you in your memories and the dream that one day you will be together again. My heart goes out to  you and your whole family,

I only knew Michael briefly through my brother who was a close friend of his. I shared a some memorable moments at an Eagles concert with my brother and Michael many years ago and recall his supreme excitement  about being there. Michael Donovan and Family

I was a teenager when Mike came into my family. He made Julie light up even more than she already was. His smile was as big as his heart. He truly lit up a room with both. He was one of the kindest souls I ever met. My heart is with Julie, Zach and Lucas and Mike's family.  

Michael Abraham was lionhearted. It came through in how he lived his life, loved his family and cared for friends. For almost 20 years, we encouraged each other as writers. That usually took the form of swapping client stories, commiserating over deadlines and sharing the understanding that we wouldn't have it any other way. Our running jokes were the oft-repeated refrains: "Any luck getting paid?" and "How's the screenplay going?" 
Like most people, I delighted in Mike's Facebook posts. They were a fun mix of road trip photos and quotes from political biographies. One day, he was at a civil war museum. Another day, a music festival by the canal. Mike's wit and intelligence were only outsized by his huge heart. His unabashed pride in the boys was front and centre, along with his love for Julie. He will be remembered and missed as a great man.

We did not have enough adventures. We had only just begun to be friends. But we were family first, and that feels right. Mike is the reason I became a Dudeist Priest (not even kidding), and I know he’s abiding somewhere beautiful, in a room perfectly tied together.  I will miss him.

He will always hold a very special place in the hearts of our family.

What I remember before Mike's kindness and intelligence was his ready wit...and all the laughter! I hold very close to me the memories of many hours spent together editing and choosing poems for Bywords, the little magazine we edited together with Gwen Guth. I have been remiss over the years keeping in touch with Mike, Julie and their beautiful boys, but my deep sense of a close friendship with them has never waned.  The beloved friend of so many...he is acutely missed. May his memory be eternal!

This is terribly sad.  Mike was truly a great guy.  He was a very caring husband and father, as well as a man who was always, always thinking, reading, and wrestling with what it means to be human.  The best words that come to mind, when trying to sum him up, is that he was a profoundly decent human being.

He packed a lot of living into his unfairly shortened life, and I hope Julie and the boys can take some comfort in that.  He went through a few rough patches, not least in his final illness, but he always maintained his dignity, his empathy, and even his sense of humour.  He was equal parts curiosity and generosity, and I feel richer for having known him.  I will really miss him.


While Michael was less than a year into his tenure at B.Yond and Eudela, his uplifting spirit was appreciated by everyone he touched. It was way to early for Michael. He was so engaged and such a creative person. This reminds us to take nothing for granted, appreciate every day, be good to people, be the best you can be. Michael embodied all of these traits and he will be greatly missed by his co-workers.


 Dear Julie ,and boys, I am one of the lucky New Orleanians ,who called Mike one of our own. That was true for all visits to the Tuttles and his beloved Jazzfest.I think Mike and Julie had the most beautiful love story! No father will ever be more proud of their sons than  Quentin Michael Abraham was. I loved Mike and  will always love and  keep in touch with my Canadian family. Love, Gabby

I had the pleasure of working with Michael 20 years ago at Discreet. What a wonderful person and gifted writer. His intelligence and humor was always appreciated. I know how much he loved his family and friends and the world is a little less bright now with his passing.

Mike was truly a man for the ages. A great human without a bad bone in his body.  Although we lost touch after he moved to Montreal, we communicated thru Facebook and I thought about him often as he entertained us with his literary quotes and photos of his precious family and his beautiful city.  I will miss all of that.  It has been the highlight of my FB newsfeed.
