Peter Noonan

December 14, 1936November 14, 2012

December 14, 1936 - November 14, 2012 With tears in our eyes and sorrow in our hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Peter. He endured cancer with courage and a positive attitude until the end. He leaves to mourn his lovely, caring wife and soul mate Sylvia Hrycyn. He was the son of the late Florence Smiley and Arthur Noonan of Perth, Ontario. Survived by his dear sister Heather (John McGrath) and his nephew Darcy (Erin White) of Pembroke, Ontario. Peter was cherished by Sylvia's family, nieces Susan Freitag (Arthur Honsberger) and Sandra, sisters Rose and Natalie and brother Bill-Myron. He was blessed with many loyal and devoted friends with whom he spent many good times with lots of laughs. Peter had a remarkable and brilliant flying career. He served in the Royal Canadian Airforce as a F/O Sabre pilot 430 Squadron-2 wing from 1956- 1962 in Moosejaw and in Gimli. In 1958 he flew Nato missions in Grostenquin, France. In 1963 he joined Air Canada and had an adventurous, wonderful career for 28 years, and retired on the 767 as captain. Peter and Sylvia continued to enjoy the comaraderie through many fun and memorable SPAADS and Air Canada reunions. Peter had a rich and full life. He was an avid golfer, (Richard and Ralph will miss him). He enjoyed fishing, skiing, country music and cross word puzzles, a cold Kilkenny with Louis and Carol, B.B.Q's up at the cottage on Golden Lake, Val David, and holiday dinners with Susie and Arthur. He will always be remembered as a kind, generous, intelligent, charming, tall handsome man with sparkling blue eyes and an infectious smile. We lost an honorable man. Those who knew him loved him. Very special thanks to Dr. C. Shustik, Dr. Barbara, Brigitte and Fabiola, the oncology team, and the 6M staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Peter died at peace after receiving the last rites from Father Schulz of Holy Name of Jesus Parish. Thank you for all the prayers. Sylvia always had hope that her Peter would come home to her, but he was called home to the Father. May he rest in peace. Per Ardua Ad Astra. The family will receive condolences: Saturday, November 24, 2012 from 1 to 2pm. Catholic funeral service: 2pm. Reception will follow. Burial in presence of ashes: Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:30am at the Côte-des-Neiges Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. (free indoor parking)

You and I have never met and I only recently learned of Peter's passing from John Quigley. I knew Peter well in the early 1950's in Perth and we had some wonderful times together. He joined the RCAf and wanted me to go also but I went on to a 39 year career in the Royal Bank. We had no contact thereafter but I often thought of him. May God grant you the peace and strength necessary to carry on in life. I am sure God welcomed Peter with open arms and he will be waiting for you in paradise.

Dearest Sylvia and Family,
It was profoundly sad for Pete and I to learn of the passing of your beloved Peter, your soulmate.
What a long fight it has been for the two of you these many years. A cancer journey endured by Peter, and you, Sylvia, always being lovingly by his side throughout it all. With grit and love, and a shared sense of humour. An honoured life. An inspiration.
Peter has been called to God and to Heaven; we know love goes on forever. Your many beautiful memories will comfort you, Sylvia. You are in our hearts, our thoughts, and prayers.
With our sympathies,and love.
Ursula & Peter McDonald
P.S. Pete and I imagine Peter to be flying (well, soaring) amongst the stars, and making angels laugh!

Dear Sylvia & family.

We are deeply saddened that Pete has moved to a better place to entertain all with his stories & laughter! He made us all laugh even when things were not going well. We will be telling Pete's stories forever! What a great guy and friend. ( He actually gave me my nick-name - which most people use today!) . Enjoy your rest with our Lord & deserve it buddy!

Peter: I knew him, & address to HIM, thru our Christie Lake friends, neighbour/friend/farmer whom we mutually appreciated his uncle 'Webb' TAY-homesteader there.. I left that place long ago, but 'alway's missed Pete', his gentle way, I alway's knew he was 'smart', fine Christian man, many sincere friends .When single, he loved Perth, & the Lake, put-put in view fishing for pickeral, out front mid-center alway' of fellows. An loss for me, an loss for you, an 'Gain for God'. Signed w.keith scott, of North York, ON.
