She was predeceased by her mother Rose Earle (Gauthier) and father Harold Earle.
Elaine leaves behind her younger brother Gerald (Margaret) in Nanaimo, BC and older sister Dorothy in London, Ontario. Mom and Nana will be missed by her three children Daniel (LaiLai), Thomas (Josee), and Valerie (Brendan); and her four grandchildren Blake, Larken, Declan, and Brendan. She was loved by her sister in law Mary Marilley (Burke), her loving niece Jennifer Earle and the many nieces, nephews, and in laws from across Canada, Europe, and all the way to Bujumbura, Burundi.
Born and raised in Cornwall, Ontario, Elaine moved to Montreal in the 1950s and landed her first job as a clerk in the payroll department at Alcan. In 1957 she married Montreal newspaper journalist Tim Burke. She worked at the VIP shopping service at Eatons in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Being a single mom since the early 1970s she was the epitome of resourcefulness, keeping things together for her three children.
She then made her own way in the advertising business, first at Heard Advertising in NDG in the mid 1970s, and then at PIR (Public and Industrial Relations) in the late 1970s and 1980s. Then she spent several years as a contract worker in Ottawa at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Her last trade and passion before being a fulltime Nana was at Alf's Antiques in the beaches district in Toronto selling spectacular old wood harvest tables to the who's who in Toronto.
She then returned to Montreal in 2005 in full retirement enjoying bridge, reading, and dispensing grandmotherly wisdom and counselling.
The family will receive condolences on January 27th, 2020, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White funeral home, 5610 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, Quebec H4A 1W5.
A funeral service will follow immediately after in the chapel.
Special thanks to CLSC social worker Julie Mendelson who was a caring presence and aide organizing the home care visits to Mom's apartment.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Giant Steps Foundation would be appreciated.
