We had shared a wonderful and special Christmas in Toronto with friends and my goldens, Quinn and Lexa - often found by Sandra’s side as we enjoyed evening fires, laughs and some wine.
I know that Sandra is now surrounded by all the animals she loved over her life and is reunited with Mum, Daddy and Michael. Sandra was a talented baker and made many special cakes for both adult and children’s birthdays. We often collaborated in the kitchen – whether at home or in a beach house in Maine.
Sandra was a real seamstress, had a great eye for fabric and colour and even sewed her own wedding dress. She never lived far from Mum and Michael and when Mum was less able, spent every weekend at her house cooking, visiting, trimming bushes under instruction, and ensuring that Mum had meals for the coming week.
Later she gave the same caring attention to Michael, especially through Covid. I am thankful for all the time we had together, especially as adults – on the beach in Maine, dog walking, shopping expeditions, gardening in the sun and a couple of great ‘sisters’ trips. Sam will always be in my heart but will always be so missed.
There will be a small memorial gathering in Montreal and another in Toronto at a later date where we will raise a glass to her memory.
