Serban Popescu

Surrounded by the love and prayers of his family, Serban Popescu's heart beat its last at the Montreal Cardiology Institute on June 27, 2013.

He was born to Alexandru Popescu and Simona-Angela Dumitrescu in Bucarest, Romania on April 23, 1948. He moved with his family to Montreal in 1976.

He is survived by his son Al , daughter Caroline and stepdaughter Sorina, as well as by his grandsons William and Michael, grandaughters Paula, Siera and Raffaela, his love Donca, mother Simona, sister Alina, cousin Dan (wife Tamima), nephew Nicolas and niece Catherine, daughter-in-law Sofia and brother-in-law Ovidiu.

Serban was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather and friend, who gave his full heart to those he loved. "We always felt free and safe to be ourselves around him and unconditionally loved". Every hug, smile, and moment of his attention was genuine and heartfelt, and his spirit at the dinner table was our comfort food. He will always be remembered for his eccentric style, contagious laugh, passionate conversation and "joie de vivre" which perpetuated so much color and joy to our lives.

We know that his love for all of us drove his heart to fight- to beat on as long as it could and we will always cherish the precious last moments that God gave us with him by his bedside. He gave his us his last breath and the chance to hold his hand as he crossed over to Heaven where we know he will be welcomed with open arms. Though we know that his pursuit to find life's meaning was an unfinished journey, we hope that Serban rests in peace knowing how much meaning he gave to our lives.

A visitation will be held at the Centre Funeraire Cote-des-Neiges on Saturday, July 6th where the family will receive condolences between 9:00AM-12:00PM, followed by the funeral service in the chapel from 12:00PM-1:00PM. Friends and family are welcome to attend an intimate reception onsite afterwards from 1:00PM-3:30PM.

In his honour, we preferably welcome donations to the William and Michael Popescu Scholarship fund in Memory of Serban Popescu.
