Doting mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend for sure, but Shirley was so much more than what can be contained within an obituary. To capture Shirley's true essence was to be in her presence, where resilience met an unassuming humor that stopped you in your tracks, as you clutched your sides in laughter and asked yourself, "Did she just say that?" Shirley could lighten any situation and often made you feel better about yourself. She called a spade a spade, you knew where you stood with her but she always made allowances for change and rarely suffered injustices silently.
Professionally, she thrived in Business Administration where she put her stellar organizational & people skills to good use. Shirley devoted over 30 years to Industrial Projects Ltd. Even more inspirational was Shirley's ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Personal health challenges, the loss of 2 children to Cystic Fibrosis (Wendy & Terry), loss of her husband, "we were a team" (Patrick), being the family breadwinner from the 60's to 2000, her drive to age independently in place defined her strength. Shirley was courageous and grew with each challenge building her wisdom, wit, compassion and jaw dropping humor.
Those left to survive Shirley are her daughter Cindy, six grandkids, older sister June Martin, sister-in-law Evelyn Kelly, brothers-in-law Ken and Cameron Kelly, along with many more nieces, nephews and friends.
Life Celebration will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Many, many thanks to the "do-gooders" in her life, the CLSC (Chez Soi) and the wonderful staff at the Royal Vic who Shirley kept in touch with over the last 3 years.
"I'll be talking to you."
