September 15, 1918 – October 22, 2020
Passed away peacefully in his 103rd year in Montreal at Ste Anne de Bellevue Veterans’ Hospital.
He will be remembered for his great sense of humour, his love of animals (who loved him back) and his passion for the environment. One of his sayings was “you are either part of the problem or part of the solution”. His favourite poem, one that he could recite well past his 100th year, was Trees by Joyce Kilmer.
He had an aptitude for problem-solving that taught us to rise up to any challenge. There was nothing he couldn’t tackle including building a house and a barn at age 65.
During World War II, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He retired in Montreal after working many years at Bell Canada.
He is predeceased by his parents Margaret and Albert Cunningham; his siblings Howard James (Phyllis King), Frances Marguerite (William Billington), and Raymond Dalton (Grace Hogg).
Lovingly remembered by his children Nancy (Randy Silkey, deceased Nov. 1/19), Carol (Kevin Smith), and Owen (Christina Salavantis); his grandchildren Ryan, Kelley (Paul Hester), and Clinton (Sylvia Siscoe) Silkey; Katherine (Mitch Purcell) and Julia Smith; and Leah Cunningham; also great grandchildren Randy, Emma, Amelia and Katarina Silkey.
