Yolanda di Paola

Yolanda passed away on May 5th at the age of ninety-six and life as we know it will never be the same.

Born in Montreal to a large and loving family, Yolanda was daughter to Carmela Macaragi and Bartolo Di Paola, and sister to Frances, Joe, Tony, Bobby, Norma, and Eddie. Yolanda often shared fond memories from her youth that sparked laughter and that were a testament to the lasting impact of those who raised her and who surrounded her.

Yolanda married Ian De Jean in 1957 and raised two children, Tracey (late Daryl Erickson) and Darren (Jennie). She took immense pride in creating a home for her family; a home that became a gathering place for her family, her friends, and her children's friends. She was both a proud homemaker par excellence and a consummate hostess; her door was always open!

But, her most cherished role was that of a grandmother. To Sydney, Jackson, and Charlie, she was the quintessential grandmother. She instilled in them a curiosity and a passion for life. She was an energetic and a fun-loving grandmother that believed in and supported every dream they wanted to achieve.

To everyone who knew her, Yolanda was a pillar of strength, a shoulder to lean on, and a helping hand at the ready. She made time for everybody and made everyone feel special. She faced every challenge with grace, optimism, and determination. In later years, Yolanda continued to live independently and vibrantly, she watched hockey games religiously, and always found a reason to enjoy another Whippet!

She leaves behind her children and grandchildren, her brother Eddie (Anita), her sister-in-law Margaret, and her nieces and nephews, Ricky (Catherine), Darlene, Ron, and Karen (Brian); all of whom will miss her dearly. We take great comfort in knowing that she is reunited with Ian, the love of her life; her departed family members; and her dear friends—they have a lot of catching up to do!

This is not goodbye but rather, until we meet again!

As per Yolanda's wishes, the family will hold a private ceremony to honour and celebrate her life.
