Andrew A. Daly Jr. of Montrose, NY passed away Friday, March 27, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. He was born to Andrew and Elizabeth (Cowan), Scottish immigrants, on August 4, 1936, in the Yorkville section of Manhattan. Andy graduated from Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades in 1954. After graduation, he entered the Navy at the age of 17, upon receiving the required consent of his parents. He was honorably discharged and returned to the family apartment at 1596 Second Avenue where he met a girl from around the corner, Ann V. Fallon. They married on October 22, 1960, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church on 83rd Street. Ann and Andy were always happiest when they were together, sharing time with their family and the special friends that surrounded them for decades. They treasured every single day and year of their 65-year marriage.
In April of 1961, Andy joined the Fire Department of the City of New York and began a career in which he embodied all the qualities that the job required - dedication, service, strength, and bravery. Andy served in Ladder 17, 17-2, and Engine 79. Ladder 17-2 was established during a time referred to as the “War Years”, which required a second, separate ladder unit in the same house to handle the extreme workload. Ladder 17 is the home of the “Green Berets”. Being that his father was born in Dublin, he was a proud member of the FDNY Emerald Society along with the Holy Name Society. Andy retired in 1992 after 31 years of service. The only things he loved more than the FDNY were God, his family, and his country. It was a brotherhood that he cherished.
Andy was the loving father of Kelliann and her husband, Christopher Lenzi, Jennifer and her husband, James McHale, and Alison. His daughters were blessed to have a father who never raised his voice or issued a harsh word, they were surrounded only by love and support. He was the proud “Pop” of Andrew and fiancé Dakota, Meghan, Blair and husband Daniel; James and wife Allison, Liam, and Aidan; Declan and Maeve. Pop went to all the games, matches, school plays, and graduations. He carried everyone on his shoulders well past the age that they could walk and was always available to join his grandchildren body surfing the waves or sitting on the sofa and watching their favorite show. He could always be found wearing a cap or sweatshirt from one of the many colleges his grandchildren attended. Andy was a member of American Legion Post 274, lifelong communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, and he lived the Beatitudes. He was the quiet in a storm and the rock upon which his family was built.
Andy is also survived by his loving sister and brother, Mary Leonard and Robert Daly, lifelong friend and brother-in-law Patrick Fallon and his wife Diana, sister-in-law Alice Fallon, friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins, here and in Scotland.
He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law John Fallon and Thomas Leonard, and sister-in-law Catherine Danaher.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 4-8PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Church, Verplanck.
