Born in Maturin, Venezuela to the late Vidal and Candida Maraver, Cruz dedicated her life to teaching, a vocation she pursued passionately for more than 40 years. She loved her job and the many students whose lives she touched through the decades.
Cruz was a vibrant soul who brought joy to every room she entered. She found happiness in the simple and beautiful things—painting delicate watercolors, dancing, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. She was known for her warmth, charm, and her gift for bringing people together. With her late husband, Desiderio C. “Buddy” Di Sisto, she hosted countless memorable parties, filling their home with music, laughter, and love.
Above all else, Cruz cherished her family. She was a devoted mother to her son, Desiderio V. “Desi” Di Sisto (Roseann), and a loving son-in-law, Gaspare Cerullo, and younger brother Jose Manuel. She was the proud grandmother of Francesca Jacks (Ben), Cristina Gordon (Greg), Danielle Sabolik (John), and Desiderio J. Di Sisto (Kathryn), and a doting great-grandmother to Nora, Mia, River, Elizabeth, and Nico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Buddy, her beloved daughter Francesca Cerullo, and her great-grandson Johnny R Sabolik V. Along with her siblings Josefina, Pablo Jose, Jose Alfredo, Jose Juan Bautista and Jose Vidal.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Montrose on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in her honor at St. Augustine Church in Ossining, NY, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by entombment at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, NY.
Cruz Maria Di Sisto lived a full and beautiful life—her legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
