Edward W Snyder Jr.

Edward W. Snyder, Jr., a resident of Montrose, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 5, 2026. He was 84 years old. Ed was born on April 4, 1942, in Peekskill, NY to the late Edward W., Sr. and Marie Elizabeth (Tivnon) Snyder. Edward graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in 1960, where he was Westchester’s first All County Athlete in 3 major sports; Baseball, Basketball and Football. He was the recipient of the prestigious Con-Edison Award as well as a member of the First All County Dream Team in 1959. The following year attended University of Connecticut on a football scholarship. He served in the NYS National Guard from 1965-1970 in Peekskill, NY. After returning from the service, he worked 32 years for NY Telephone and continued as a consultant for Verizon, Inc. after retirement. He was a member of the Cortlandt Engine Company for 61 years serving as a chief from 1981-82, a 61 year member of the FASNY, a 47 year life member of Westchester County Volunteer Fireman’s Association and a 44 year Westchester County Fire Parade Judge.

He is survived by his children Brian (Joy) Snyder, Charles (Debbie) Schunk, Tracey (Paul) Galeno and his granddaughters Abby and Ryan. His sister Peggy and nieces Lisa Breitmayer and Linda Axenroth. His second wife Linda Sulham; his step-children RJ Martino and Kristyn Martino and their respective families.

He was predeceased by his son Edward III in 1998 and his wife Judith of 43 years in 2015.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, July 12th from 1-7pm at Edward F Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY 10548. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, July 13th at 10:30am at St. Patrick’s Church, 240 11th St, Verplanck, NY 10596. Interment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Broadway, Verplanck, NY 10596.
