Eileen S. Price
April 10, 1936 – February 26, 2020
Eileen S. Price (née Clifford), 83, went home to the Lord peacefully on February 26, 2020. Born April 10, 1936, in Yorkers, New York, to James Clifford of Killorglin, Co. Kerry, and Ellen Clifford (née Derivan) of Yonkers, New York, proprietors of Clifford’s Grocery on Riverdale Avenue. Eileen graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1949 and from Commerce High School in 1953 earning honors and rewards for merit along the way. Her Senior High School yearbook cites her ambition “to take a trip to Ireland.” Following her high school graduation, Eileen went to work for Metropolitan Life in New York City. She soon met her future husband, Joseph M. Price from Dublin, Ireland, who had become a frequent patron of Clifford’s Grocery. On June 8, 1958, they were married at St. Mary's Church, Yonkers, NY. The couple lived in Yonkers until moving to Montrose, NY, where they raised six children with an emphasis on academics, sports, and song and dance, seeing all graduate college. Eileen returned to working full time in the 1980s for the Westchester Medical Center, receiving a pension for more than 15 years of service upon her retirement in 1997.
Eileen was a faithful parishioner of St Patrick’s Parish in Verplanck, an active participant in the AOH Ladies Auxiliary (Div. 18), a frequent volunteer and a supportive Mother and Grandmother. A strong and independent woman, she was always ready to pitch in for Family and Friends. She enjoyed frequent trips to Ireland with her Husband and Family and became interested in genealogy, which blossomed into a full-time passion that she pursued for more than 20 years. She has passed on her love of family lore and pride of heritage to her children and her grandchildren.
Survivors include her sister-in-law Alyce Price of Yonkers, NY; brother-in-law Walter Bilz of Park Ridge, NJ; brother-in-law Patrick Fergus of Yonkers, NY; son Michael (Claudia) of Natick, MA; son Matthew (Mary Ann) of Ashburn, VA; daughter Maureen (Carl Wesolowski) of Milton, GA; daughter Una (Darryl Smith) of Medfield, MA; son John of Irvington, NY; and daughter Nora (Mark Nolan) of Northport, NY, as well as 18 grandchildren and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews whom she cherished with all her heart. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Joseph M. Price; sisters Margaret (Peggy) Reilly and Patricia Bilz; brother-in-law Francis Reilly of Yonkers, NY, and brother-in-law William Price of Yonkers, NY. May all the departed rest in peace, Amen. To all the Price family,
Please accept my condolences at this very sad time. I was so sorry to hear of Eileen's passing, I remember her with much fondness and love. I always looked forward to meeting her and Joe during their regular visits to Ireland following their retirements. Eileen was quiet but was a very wise and determined lady and I admired her greatly. I hope and pray that she is now reunited with her beloved Joe. May she rest in peace.

To all the Prices,
So sorry to hear of Eileen's passing. She was a beautiful, bright, strong-willed, adventurous and happy person. She always showed such an interest in us and I loved how she felt such a connection to Ireland.
We have such great memories of her's and Joe's visits to Dublin and meeting up with them in our family home in Griffith Ave with Paddy and Phil, and later welcoming them to our own nest (photo below with Nora and Co.). I will never forget also the welcome I received at the Price family home in Montrose when I visited in the 80's. The memory of that day remains with me to this day ( I can still smell the aroma of the BBQ!).
Thinking of you all at this sad time and hoping that the family gathering around your mother for one last time has brought some consolation to you all.
It's the end of an era with the three Clifford ladies now gone but let's make sure that the connections with the 'Clifford' lineage in Ireland endures.
Mind yourselves at this sad time.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam Eileen dílis.
