James R Hall

James R. (Jim) Hall, a resident of Peekskill, NY, passed away on September 18, 2026, in the loving presence of his wife (Ellie), and was surrounded shortly after by his five children (Jim, Laurie, Tricia, Katie and Erin). He was 81 years old.

Jim was born on April 11, 1945, in the Bronx, NY to the late John and Mary (Donohue) Hall. He was proud of his Bronx childhood and often shared stories about neighborhood stickball games, his vendor days at Yankee stadium, and the brothers and nuns of Catholic school. Jim graduated high school from the Academy of Mount Saint Michael, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Fordham University, and a Juris Doctorate from Fordham Law School. During a night of dancing at The Glen Island Casino, Jim met and soon fell in love with Eleanor (Ellie) Dooley. Jim and Ellie married on January 17, 1970. They welcomed son James (Jim) in October 1970, daughter Laurie in June 1973, and daughter Tricia in November 1974. As their family grew, Jim and Ellie migrated north from the Bronx and settled in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, where they lived for over 36 years. They welcomed daughter Kathleen (Katie) in September 1977, and daughter Erin in October 1978.

Jim was well known as a devoted family man. He was an active participant in his five children’s lives, including Little League coach, softball coach, and a steady presence at their school and sporting events. Jim and Ellie were married nearly 57 years. After putting their five children through college, they logged countless adventures together, including road trips to visit their children and 13 grandchildren (Chicago, Australia, Ithaca, Rochester, Virginia, North Carolina), trips to Italy, France, Ireland, Hawaii and a six-week journey cross-country to experience the National Parks. This trip was Jim’s favorite and a life-long dream.

Jim’s professional career as an attorney and certified public accountant was highlighted by his time at Avon Products, Deloitte and Touche, and Ernst and Young. Before his retirement, he enjoyed running his own practice.

Jim gave back to the local and global communities by serving on the board of Croton Children’s Theatre, and The African Women’s Education Fund.

He is survived by his wife Ellie, son Jim (Eileen; children Kellyn, Marin, Aidan and Lauren), daughters Laurie (Cameron; Jamie and Eamon), Tricia (Bart; Ella, Henry, Lucy and Maribel), Katie (Brian; Brady) and Erin (Thomas; Sinclair, Louis). Jim is also survived by his brother John (Linda) Hall. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Sullivan.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 25th from 4-8pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, NY 10548. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th at 10:15am at Church of the Holy Spirit, 1969 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY 10567. Interment will be private.
