Leah J. Timmons

Leah J. Timmons, a longtime resident of Buchanan, passed away on October 4, 2025. She was 90 years old. Leah was born on April 13, 1935 in Tarrytown, NY to the late Thomas and Grace (Ostrander) DeSoto.

Leah attended Peekskill City Schools and met her best friend, Barbara (LaGrand) Timcoe while they were in high school. They have remained close for the past 74 years. Leah worked for over 20 years as a waitress at The Red Shutter Inn. She married Charles Timmons on the 25th of August 1985. She enjoyed spending time at the winter home of her daughter and son-in-law in Madeira Beach, FL. Her favorite vacation spot was spending time with Charles in Kennebunkport, ME. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished every new addition.

Leah is survived by her son George Smith (Victoria) from Buchanan, NY and daughter, Laura Watt (John) from Goshen, NY, her three grandchildren, Christopher Burns (Victoria), Nancy Soutar (James) and Geoffrey Burns as well as three great-grandchildren: James and Ella Soutar and Hudson Burns, a sister, Nancy Heller, several nieces, a nephew and cousins. Leah is also survived by her step-children, Donna Anderson, Kevin Timmons, and Dawn Fucheck, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Timmons, her dear brother, Thomas and her sweet Golden Retriever, Amy Lou.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Monday, October 13th from 4 - 8 PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, NY 10548. Inurnment of the ashes of both Leah and Charles will take place on Tuesday, October 14th at 11 AM at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, 540 N Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591.
