Luis was born on July 13, 1966 in Cuenca, Ecuador. From the beginning, Luis was a notorious extravert. This was made clear when he became President of his high school class. In 1987, he married his high school sweetheart, Maria Chunir. Shortly after, he risked everything and ventured to the US. As the oldest child, he led the way for 7 of his 8 siblings to follow. When he arrived in New York, he took on a number of different jobs. No job was too big or too small for Luis. He especially had a knack for construction, which led to him owning his own home contracting business and growing it from the ground up. At 22, he became a father with the birth of his son Christian. Three years later, he was blessed with a daughter, Maria Adriana. As a result of all of his hard work, he enjoyed hosting numerous gatherings for family and friends at his home. A true go-getter, Luis would never be found sitting still. He always had his hand in a number of different activities and undertakings. He established Scorpion’s Club, a soccer league that he ran from 1994 - 2004. During this same time, he took on the challenge of owning and running a restaurant to bring Ecuadorian cuisine to his local community. This speaks to the type of person he was - he was always finding new ways to bring our Ecuadorian community together. On the weekends, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. Luis was the person everyone went to when they had a problem; he could offer words of advice and wisdom on numerous topics, personal or professional. Luis will always be remembered for his strong-will and determination - he taught us all that “it can’t be done” and “it’s too hard” are never acceptable answers to any challenges life throws our way.
Luis is survived by his wife, Maria; son, Christian; granddaughters, Isabella and Victoria; parents, Alejandrina and Alberto; siblings Marcelo, Nancy, Rita, Fabian, Vincent, Rodrigo, Pedro, and Marcos; as well as numerous others including in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends that he held near to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Adriana.
