Marilyn Theresa Labat Ortmann, daughter of Antoine Labat and Elizabeth Barsha, born February 2, 1949 of Paterson, NJ died peacefully on May 3, 2022 at the age of 73. She is survived by her two daughters, Vanessa Ortmann Sabbagh and Erica Ortmann.
Marilyn touched the lives of many and will be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, sharp wit, and humor. She was the loving wife of the late Fred Ortmann for 42 years before he passed away on March 24, 2020. Marilyn and Fred married in Southampton, NY in 1978 and spent the early years of their marriage traveling around the world. Together, they built a beautiful home in Croton-on-Hudson, where they raised their two daughters. Marilyn was a loving and nurturing mother who made every sacrifice to guide and protect her children. She described motherhood as her pride and joy.
Marilyn was an educator who shaped the lives of her many students as a high school English teacher and adjunct professor. She had a true passion for teaching literature and will be remembered by her many students and colleagues.
During retirement, Marilyn became active in the community at Chapel Hill Estates in Peekskill, where she resided. She loved the arts and enjoyed theater and film. In her final years, she spent time with her family and friends.
Marilyn will be greatly missed and remembered.
A memorial visitation is scheduled on Tuesday, May 17th at 10:00am with a service beginning at 12:00pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY 10548.
