Nanette Paras Dayrit-Rose of Montrose, NY, passed away at home with her family by her side on Sunday, July 19, 2020. She was 78 years old. Nanette was born on January 1, 1942 in Angeles City, Philippines to the late, Jose and Maria Paras Dayrit. Nanette immigrated to the United States among the 1960’s influx of Filipina nurses along with her life-long best friend, Evangeline Pintang. She finally settled in Chicago to build her nursing career and met then married her beloved soldier, the late Darrell F. Rose. She retired from cardiac intensive care nursing at Loyola University Chicago in 2006 to help take care of her grandchildren. Nanette’s life can be defined in two words: loving generosity. Through her love her family grew to include everyone she met. She treated everyone as if he or she were her sister, brother, daughter, son, or grandchild. She loved her cats. When her husband Darrell died in 2016, she moved to Montrose NY to live with her daughter, Theresa, and grandchildren, Alexis and Ethan. Everyone knew “Lola” ( Lola is the Filipino word for grandmother). She was at every concert, ceremony and sporting event Alexis and Ethan were involved with. Nanette was also a deeply religious Catholic woman. Through prayer she created a relationship with her local best buddy, Praxi and adopted Praxi’s family, the Filipino McGuigans, as her own. With the Praxi’s family and with Fr. Novio, she spent many days, nights and trips praying, laughing and eating. Nanette is survived by her daughter, Theresa, her daughter in spirit, Tinah, her grandchildren, Alexis, Ethan, Yleinah and Bella, and her sons-in-law, Michael and Yani. She also leaves behind an immense family including Mike, Michelle, Marlene and Nick, the children of her late brother, Borgie, and the entire Vasquez clan. She will be missed by many and remembered by all who met her. Nanette is finally resting with Darrell.
