Peter Cobb Colgan took his last breath on August 25, 2026 at the age of 93. He was born in Brooklyn on June 3, 1933 to the late Harry Piercy and Ruth (Cleveland) Colgan. He spent the majority of his life on Long Island, growing up in Hempstead before settling in Fort Salonga with his young family. There, they built lasting friendships and became part of a close-knit community that remained dear to them throughout their lives. The Colgan’s winter soup party and 4th of July picnic were annual events.
Peter started his own business as a teen, owning a garden center and landscape company. He was happiest with his hands in the dirt and took great pride in his well manicured yard. Ask him anything about trees or flowers and you may not be able to stop him from talking.
Peter was also an avid skier. He was an old school ski bum in Stowe, VT, skiing all day and working as the night manager in a hotel at night. He spoke of his time on the slopes like the old glory days.
Moving to Palm Coast, FL upon retirement , Peter enjoyed even more time outside, whether in the pool or working in his gardens. He also liked to feed the birds and could often be heard whistling to them.
Peter was a man who was unabashedly happy with his life. He made the best of every situation and made all who knew him feel warm and welcome. His legacy is one of kindness, of always lending a hand, and most importantly, leading by example.
Peter is predeceased by his beloved wife, June. He is survived by their three children, Peter Colgan Jr., Jill Massett (Tim), and Aimee Markussen (Christian), along with five cherished grandchildren, Peter Colgan III, Michael, Mackenzie, Jane and Jack.
Peter’s life will be celebrated at a later date.
Please plant a tree or flowers to enjoy in Peter’s memory.
