Rosina Cassano of Peekskill, NY passed away on May 8, 2018. She was born to Ferdinando and Felicia (Maletta) Stella on December 1, 1919 in Nocera, Terinese, Calabria, Italy. In Italy, Rosina met and married her husband Vincenzo Pontieri. Together they had five children. Sadly, Vincenzo passed at a young age. Years later she was able to find love once again with James Cassano. Rosina and James were married in 1964 until his passing in 1983. In 1955 Rosina came to America and settled in Brooklyn, NY which is the City she lived in for many decades – she truly loved Brooklyn and would often share with her family how much she missed Brooklyn. Rosina was always a hard worker, she worked as a seamstress for Robert Hall in Brooklyn, NY. After her retirement from Robert Hall, Rosina enjoyed her time cooking at her son’s deli in Brooklyn. She was very proud to be known for her roast beef, potato salad and rice pudding. In her earlier years, she always enjoyed cooking a Traditional Italian Sunday Dinner for her family- when you entered her home you were greeted by the aroma of her delicious meatballs frying on the stove, and after dinner she would always try to engage us in a game of Bingo or Pokeno. Rosina was a gentle woman – she was always very generous. It brought her great joy to share with others. Throughout her life she was always ready to offer everyone a cup of coffee and a cookie and at Drum Hill Senior Living Community she was known to always have candy, chocolate, or cookies in her pockets to greet staff, family and friends with. She will be missed by her family as well as her friends and the Staff at the Drum Hill Community where she lived. Rosina is survived by her caring daughter Maria Raffaele of Montrose, NY; by her beloved grandchildren Frank DeLuca (JoEllen), Laura McCauley (Adam), Vincent Pontieri (Rosemarie), Vanessa Zanotti (Art), Angela Cappelli (Michael), Jennifer Naley (Sean), Jodi Ann Eure (Marcus), and William Raffaele, Jr. (Nancy); and by 17 adored great grandchildren. Rosina was predeceased in death by her husband Vincenzo Pontieri in 1950 and James Cassano in 1983. She was also predeceased by her four children Angelo Pontieri, Rosaria DeLuca, John Pontieri, and Josephine Lordy and her three son-in-laws, Anthony DeLuca, Richard Lordy, and William Raffaele, Sr.

Loved visiting Brooklyn and hearing the Mister Softy truck. My grandmother would run and open the window, wave her hands and yell "wait, wait" then she would give us money to go get ice cream. I hope you're enjoying a big chocolate cone in Heaven with my mom! Love you Big Nonn! 💕
