Seamus Martin Ferguson, 67, of Buchanan, NY passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Seamus was born on July 1, 1950 to Francis and Mary Joan (Neville) Ferguson in Dublin, Ireland. Seamus is survived by his caring sisters, Ann Mitchell, her husband Frederick and Siobhan Ferguson; cherished by nephew Colin Mitchell and niece Frances Gay and her husband Edward, by his great nephew Brody Mitchell Gay, and many cousins in America and Ireland.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, Seamus came to America when he was 8 years old. He attended St. Patrick’s school in Verplanck and graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose in 1968. He traveled a bit in his younger years, but eventually settled in the Buchanan area. Seamus truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; reading, long conversations with friends and family, and spending time with his nephew and niece. He had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. Seamus’s passions included literature, writing, and music. In speaking to people about Seamus the words, “free spirit”, “good friend”, and “lover of his family” come to mind. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 3-6pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY.

"Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends." -William Butler Yeats

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Hey Seamus, been sometime since I saw you last, but never the less it has always been good to see you. Just burning down the road with no place we really had to be except right there. Montrose, SF, Tucson, and a whole lotta miles in between. Can you still see that Frisbee that day on Spitzenberg, just sailing and sailing ? It never did come down, did it? Yep, as Jerry would say, "what a long strange trip it's been". Mighty glad for the time we spent together. Peace and love bro to you, Sioban, and family

When I started school at Hendrick Hudson, Seamus became a friend. He was always friendly, funny and stood out above others. I was grateful for his friendship. I ended up moving to Peekskill and never saw Seamus again, but I always wondered about him and where he was. I was so truly sorry to find out today that he passed. May he Rest In Peace and live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. "When Irish eyes are smiling" will forever make me think of Seamus.
