Theodore “Ted” Hammond passed away on April 15, 2017. He was a truly unique person. At a very young age he was interested in and had a natural talent for designing and building electronics. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1959 as an electrical engineer and went to work for an aerospace company designing radar systems for the US military and spent time in Vietnam with the military as a civilian contractor. He went to a Joan Baez concert and left thinking he “could no longer design radar systems to drop bombs to kill people”- he walked away from his job. Then he got involved in the music industry. He became a recording engineer for the band “Blood, Sweat and Tears” where he had a great time and got involved with building and designing many popular recording studios in the 70’s. He then went on to NY Audio Labs where he designed high end tube amplifiers. After that he moved on to NBC at 30 Rockefeller Center in NYC where they were converting TV into stereo. After that he went to Verizon Science and Tech where they were working on a precursor to FIOS. He had quite a career path. And he was a wonderful and kind man. He will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Francie Fay Hammond, a son Reed Outhouse (Eileen) a daughter Leah Hammond (Sven) and three wonderful grandchildren, Kieran, Katie and Sean. As well as many nieces and nephews.
