

Theresa A. Mauro, 85, of Croton-on-Hudson, New York, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026. Born on May 1, 1940, in Mount Vernon, New York, Theresa lived a life rooted in family, friendship, and simple joys.
On October 31, 1971 she married the love of her life, William A. Mauro Sr., at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mount Vernon, NY. They shared 42 devoted years of marriage until William’s passing in January 2014. Together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for their family.
Theresa found great happiness in the company of her friends, especially enjoying bingo and card games with her Springvale friends. She retired from Hendrick Hudson School District in 2003 after a long career as a secretary. In her younger years, she expressed her creativity through pottery and ceramics - pieces that are still lovingly displayed in the homes of her family.
She cherished many summers at the family beach house in Lavallette, where she made countless friends and happy memories of the shore. She and her husband later left Montrose to make their home in Toms River, New Jersey. After his passing, she returned to New York, spending a brief time in Mahopac before settling in Croton.
Above all, Theresa was devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving sons, William A. (Amy) Mauro, Jr. of Montrose, and Stephen Mauro, of Lincolndale, NY; She also leaves behind a step-daughter, Victoria Carrozza-Smith (George) of Buchanan, NY. She was the cherished grandmother of Willow and Jack, who brought immense joy to her life, along with Glenn (Joan) and Michael (Morgan) Carrozza, Renee Clairmont, Brandon (Lisa) and Dustin (Jackie) Margolis, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Theresa is also survived by her caring sister, Barbara Pisano; her nieces, Marissa Cavalluzzi and Jennifer (Matt) Nicoletti; and Jennifer’s children, Vincent, Samantha, and Olivia.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William A. Mauro Sr., and her brother, Patrick Pisano, and stepson John (Noreen) Mauro.
She will be warmly remembered and missed tremendously. Family and friends are invited to honor Theresa’s life on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 4–8 PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Augustine Church in Ossining, NY. Committal services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Theresa’s memory to Westchester SPCA or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
