William Emil Lund

William Emil Lund, of Montrose and formerly of Moghan Lake, NY, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born on October 17, 1949, in Rockville Centre, NY, to the late Viggo and Marion (Kubis) Lund.

William proudly served his country in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He carried that same discipline and strength throughout his life, dedicating himself to fitness, martial arts, and teaching Tai Chi. Even into his 60s and early 70s, he remained an active participant in Spartan races and was well known as a true gym rat, often spending hours a day training and encouraging others to live healthily.

In his earlier years, William owned a building in Lake Mohegan, home to a beloved salon run by his dear friends Joanne and Natalie, and a laundromat operated by his dear friend Ursula. He also enjoyed spending time at the Yonkers Raceway and the Meadowlands, where he loved watching the trotters run. Restoring his 1955 Chevy to show room condition that he treasured over the years.

William will be remembered most for his kindness, generosity, and welcoming spirit. He had a gift for making everyone feel at ease and was especially compassionate toward those less fortunate. His warmth and humor touched many lives, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Victoria Winkelmann and LauraJean O’Dell; his nieces and nephews, Laura, Steven, Elizabeth, Thomas, Brian, and Diane; and his many great-nieces and great-nephews—Brendan and Tyler, Quinn, Charlotte, Julianna, and Connor, Alex, Katie, Chris, Matthew, Connor, Brittany & Kassidy.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7th, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM at the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, Montrose, NY.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 8th at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery.

William’s strength, loyalty, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
