William J. Mills

August 14, 1929October 28, 2020

William J Mills of Putnam Valley New York passed away on October 28, 2020 at the age of 91. William was born to Samuel and Alice (Duffney)Mills on August 14, 1929 in Manhattan New York. Bill graduated from Peekskill High School in 1949. He served in the US Army for two years and was stationed in France and Germany. After 31 years with the New York Telephone Company he retired as a First Level Manager. Bill was a proud 74 year member of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department where he was a former Deputy Chief. He served on the board of directors and was named Fireman of the Year in 1989. William was a charter member and past president of Rotary International in Putnam Valley. He also served as Commissioner of the Putnam Valley Parks and Recreation. He loved wintering in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Venice Florida where he could pursue his passion for playing golf. William is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Janet (Bass) Mills, loving children Ann K. Mills Dixon (Saunders), Elizabeth Light, Thomas Mills and Mathew Mills, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and sisters Helen Underwood and Alice Bracken. He was predeceased by a sister Anne and brothers John and Edward. Out of concern for the safety and well being of all who knew and loved Bill a celebration of his life will be held at a future time. Donations in Williams memory could be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

Good bye my friend.
It was a short time that I met you good enough to see the greatest person in you. Your kindness your wonderful and gentle German speaking that I really appreciated ❤
That short time was good and enough to love you and care for you and also you so adorable wife and kids, I saw the best in you with Matt and your children and that made you super special.
My lord open the big door to a good man, I know many of us will miss you, but also we know you are in a great place.
We will meet again mein Freund. I will remember you always.
