Bill dedicated more than 40 years of his career to Con Edison, where he took great pride in his work and in the many years of service he gave to the company. However, it was the next chapter of his life that brought him his greatest happiness. He embraced each day, living life to the fullest and finding joy in the simple pleasures around him.
Bill loved taking long walks along the Hudson River, soaking up the sun and working on his great tan. He always stood out in a crowd and loved talking with anyone he met. He had a natural way of making people feel comfortable, as though they had known him for years. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in others made every conversation special, and he had a wonderful gift for leaving people with a smile and a happy memory.
He loved the beach and treasured the summers he spent in Cape Cod. An avid woodworker, Bill enjoyed creating things with his hands, including birdhouses and furniture. He also had a lifelong passion for model trains, a hobby that brought him great enjoyment throughout the years.
Above all else, Bill cherished his family. He was happily married to his beloved wife, Eileen, for 57 years before her passing in 2021. Together, they traveled, made countless memories, and treasured the time they spent with their grandchildren. They were always there for the special moments in their family’s lives.
As a father, Bill was loving, devoted, and always there when his children needed him. He took great pride in their lives and accomplishments, but most of all, he simply enjoyed being their dad. His love, humor, guidance, and unwavering support were gifts his children will carry with them always.
Bill will be deeply missed by his children, William J. Ostermann, Jr. and his wife, Tara, and Jeanine MacFadyen and her husband, Hugh; his grandchildren, Matthew and his fiancée, Elizabeth Kavanagh, Kelsie and Emma MacFadyen, and Lauren Ostermann; his great-grandson, William Hugh; and his brother, Edward Ostermann and his wife, Joan. He will also be lovingly remembered by his extended family and the many friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.
Bill leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, love, and stories that will continue to be shared by all who knew him. His family and friends will remember not only the things he loved, but the way he made people feel—welcome, comfortable, and cared for.
May Bill rest in peace and be forever remembered for the love, laughter, memories, and happiness he shared with those around him.
In Loving Memory of Bill
Bill believed in enjoying life, connecting with people, sharing a good conversation, and making memories with the people he loved. In that spirit, his family invites friends and loved ones to come together to celebrate his life.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held on Wednesday, October 14, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Fino Restaurant, 1 Baltic Place, Croton-on-Hudson, New York.
Rather than saying goodbye, we hope this gathering will be a time to remember Bill as he lived—with laughter, stories, friendship, family, and love.
