After his father retired from serving 33 years in the Army, they moved to Los Angeles, CA, where Britton attended Foshay Junior High School and graduated from Dorsey High School in 1952. He excelled in Art and Football.
After playing football and attending University of California, Santa Barbara for 2 years, Britton enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 3, 1954.
While serving in the Air Force for 28 years, he was stationed at Lackland AFB, TX; Lowry AFB, CO; Davis Monthan AFB, AZ and Mildenhall RAF England where he met and married Sheila Threlfall Newton. They went on to start a family and they traveled to his station assignments at Travis AFB, CA; Chateauroux Air Station, France; Selfridge AFB, MI; Kincheloe AFB, MI; before serving an isolated tour in the Vietnam War, Bien Hoa Air Base. After 15 months in Vietnam, he joined his family at Maxwell AFB, AL; and then onto Incirlik Air Base, Turkey; March AFB, CA; back overseas to Bruggen RAF, Germany and Ramstein AFB, Germany. He returned to March AFB, CA before his last isolated tour to Keflavik, Naval Air Station, Iceland. Finally, he returned to March AFB, CA and retired from military career service in Intelligence and an Administration Superintendent on May 31, 1982, as Senior Master Sergeant (E8).
After the Air Force, Britton went back to school at Riverside Community College earning two degrees. Then he worked 23 years in Civil Service at March AFB, Norton AFB and for Defense Finance & Accounting Service (DFAS) in San Bernardino, CA. Finally, he retired June 2009 to enjoy bowling leagues and watching sports. He was an avid bowler and kept track of his own stats. He found great joy in attending football, basketball, and baseball games, at every level. His last game was especially meaningful-a baseball game for his great grandson, Ezra.
Britton was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert B. Tresville Jr. (West Point Graduate and 332nd Fighter Group AKA Tuskegee Airmen) and his wife Kathleen Tresville.
Britton was a loving, caring, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was blessed with three children, David, Howard, and Donna, whom he shared with their mother, Sheila Tresville; he was also a stepfather to Aubrey and Carole. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Dara, Sara, Travis, Taryn, and Trevor, and his great-grandchildren, Isaac, Aiden, Ezra, and Samara.
