Dolman Darnelle Gilbert was born March 14, 1936 to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gilbert in Killarney, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 3 sons; Terry Keith Gilbert, Rodney Francell Gilbert, Larry Darnell Gilbert, and ex-wife Verna Gilbert.
Gill graduated from Byrd Prillerman High School in West Virginia. He then joined the United States Air Force, retiring from March Air Force Base after 20 years. Gill was a resident of Sunnymead/Moreno Valley, California since 1963. He attended Riverside City College where he received his Associates Degree, and worked for the County of Riverside from 1979-1997.
Gill/Dad/Unc loved being the entertainer and loved cookouts/BBQ’ing. His specialties were Ribs & Red Beans. Every year he would have a big cookout when Paula came to town in July; which was a reunion to family and friends. Of course, we all knew his collection of ball caps. If you laid it down, it got hung up. There was always a good time on the patio playing cards & left, right, center game with Wilma, Monte, and Yanna. Gill was a good father and friend to all. Always there to help everyone.
Brother Gilbert was a long time member of House of Prayer Reformation Church under the leadership of Bishop John W. Thomas Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories; only daughter, Paula S. Walker of Moreno Valley, CA, son, Michael Gilbert, 2 grandsons, Terrance Keith Gilbert and Avery Lamar Walker, 2 granddaughters, Ciara Gilbert and Angel Magnolia Walker, 1 great grandson, 3 great granddaughters, 2 brothers, Raymond and Eugene Gilbert, 3 sisters, Marjorie Winborne, Gloria Hairston, and Linda Winborne, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
