George enjoyed finding the humor in many everyday things and loved a good laugh. He was born to Captain Ray E. Malpass and Marie Brunnings in Alexandria, Virginia on a bright spring day. After his family moved a few times for the military, he was raised in Maitland, Florida in the 1960’s, when Central Florida was still full of orange groves. It was an idyllic place to grow up. George worked after high school and then joined the Air Force in 1973. He was thrilled to be in the military. He served as a Seargent, Fuel Specialist, in Alaska, Spain, South Korea, California, and the Azores. George met his former wife, Cheryl Henry, in California. They married in 1982 in Moreno Valley, that marriage ended in divorce. Their 2 children, Sarah and Andrew, were born during their time on the beautiful island of Faial in the Azores where George was serving in the Air Force during the first Gulf War. On leaving the service in 1991 George and his family made their home in Moreno Valley. George was public service oriented. He became a volunteer fireman at 17 and went on to volunteer at the local Catholic Church. He loved Sarah and Andrew greatly and never met an animal he wouldn’t help. He is survived by his two children and his sister, Rae Gilson of New York. He will be deeply missed. May his memory be a blessing.
A Committal Service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518, from 1:15 pm to 1:45 pm on May 14, 2026.
