She was preceded in death by mom, Erlinda, dad, Benedicto, and her twin nieces, Jaymee and Jordann Gaitan Saludares.
Jojo was born on March 19, 1966 in Bainbridge, Maryland. She was the eldest of three children to Erlinda and Benedicto Saludares. She graduated from Mira Mesa High School in 1984 and attended college at the University of California San Diego. With over a 30-year career in upper management at such companies as Styles for Less, Old Navy, and the Army Air Force Exchange Service, where she was stationed at multiple locations including March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley, CA, Fort Buchanan in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. Jojo retired from the Army Air Force Exchange as the Operations Manager in December 2019. Throughout her extensive management career, she was always known for her dedication, unmatched work ethic, eagerness to learn and progress, as well as her deep wealth of knowledge and willingness to share what she knew. She was so reliable and knowledgeable that she would often have former colleagues reach out to her, asking how to complete specific processes, even years after she was no longer in the position; she could easily walk the person through the process with step-by-step accuracy.
Jojo met the love of her life, Jeremy, while working at the Army Air Force Exchange Service at March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley, CA. The couple were married in an intimate backyard ceremony at Jeremy’s grandparents’ house on October 28, 2017, in Moreno Valley. They began as best friends and that developed into a deep, lasting bond that culminated in 8 and a half years of loving marriage and they shared countless memories while stationed in Puerto Rico and Georgia, as well as traveling domestically and abroad. She loved hosting get-togethers for the holidays and sharing time with loved ones, as well as creating new traditions that would carry on, even while living in different locations.
Jo was passionate about her family, friends, anything Hello Kitty, planning, traveling, home decorating, reading, creating memories, her beloved animals, Starbucks, the holidays - especially Halloween and Christmas, and taking care of others. She loved life and was eager to get out into the world to see what it had to offer. When you think of Hello Kitty, you think of Jojo – it didn’t matter what it was, if it was Hello Kitty, there was near certainty that she would love it and loved collecting everything related to her. Because of this, she received Hello Kitty gifts from all over the world from friends and family and treasured each gift. She appreciated small gestures because they felt genuine – from the heart - more than flashy grandiose displays. Known for taking selfies, she loved getting everyone involved so that memories could be saved to reflect on later. Whether the pictures remained on her phone or put on social media, she loved showing off her life because she was proud of everything she had accomplished and wanted to share it with the world. She loved decorating for the holidays and would dress up every Halloween to celebrate with friends and family. A self-proclaimed “planner girl”, she found her peace while sitting at her desk with a cup of coffee, working on her multiple planners, for what felt like hours, while some of her favorite movies and TV shows played in the background, like Law & Order and just about anything on Hallmark. Jo had a knack for making people feel comfortable and loved, regardless of how long she’d known them. People were naturally drawn to her; she didn’t have to go out of her way to be the center of attention, it just happened. She was always willing to help, regardless of the situation. Jo was one of the strongest people anyone would ever meet, even while she dealt with thyroid cancer, she remained upbeat and remarkably positive. She was magnetic and irreplaceable.
