Ollie Mildred Vanzant

Family, friends, we gather to acknowledge the departure of Ollie Mildred Nealy Vanzant, who was born to Henry Lee Mims and Pearlene Adams Mims in Lubbock, Texas. One of six children, she and her brother Henry Jr. were separated for a short time (1 year) from their parents while they migrated to California to find opportunity and a better life for the growing family.

Ollie attended Lincoln High School, a member of the cheerleader squad, and excelled in business courses offered there.

Upon graduating, she obtained employment at Cedar-Sinai Hospital as a unit secretary.

She went on to work for Kaiser Permanente for several years.

In 1961, Ollie Mildred Mims and Carneties Nealy, high school sweethearts, entered into marriage. To this union were born Anthony Nealy and Kevin Nealy. After several years, the union ended in divorce.

In 1977, Ollie completed her course of study at Southland College of Medicine – Dental – Legal Careers in Surgical Technology. She worked as a Surgical Technician for the remainder of her working years, was a member of Crenshaw Christian Church, and enjoyed fellowship there.

Ollie was able to visit Israel and travel to Hawaii in her adventurous years.

Married Michael Vanzant in 2010 and moved to Whitewater, CA, Riverside County, where they lived a quiet retirement life. Separated in 2019, she came to live with her sister in Moreno Valley until her life’s end on May 25, 2026, at the age of 85, in the care of loving family.

She leaves to join family members that have passed: father, mother, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 nephew, and 2 nieces.

And we are here to mourn her departure.

She is survived by:

• 2 sons: Anthony Nealy and Kevin Nealy

• 1 sister: Edna White

• 1 brother: Melvin Mims

• 1 brother-in-law: Richard White

• Nieces and nephews

• A tribe of grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Miller-Jones Mortuary and Crematory, 23618 Sunnymead Blvd, Moreno Valley, CA 92553, US, on June 15, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Inglewood Park Cemetery, 720 E Florence Ave, Inglewood, CA 90301, US, on June 16, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
