

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 507 Fourth St. Morgan City, LA. Burial will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Mercedes Clark, affectionately known as “Mama Mert,” was born on February 3, 1944, in Morgan City, Louisiana, to the union of Clarence Clark Sr. and Carrie Clark.
At an early age, Mercedes accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized by the late Reverend White. She faithfully attended Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Albert Royal, where she served as a devoted church secretary for many years. Later in life, she united with Second Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ivy Wilson, where she continued her walk of faith and dedication to the Lord.
Mercedes received her education in St. Mary Parish and attended Sumpter Williams High School. Throughout her life, she was known for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and servant’s heart. She carried herself with grace, wisdom, and strength, always trusting in God’s plan and sharing His love with others.
Mama Mert was a loving mother, grandmother, sister , aunt , cousin and friend who found joy in caring for those around her. She had a warm smile, a kind word for everyone she met, and a heart full of compassion. Her love, encouragement, and prayers touched countless lives and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She will forever be remembered as a God-fearing woman whose life reflected faith, love, and devotion. Though she has departed from this earthly life, her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
As her Heavenly Father welcomed her home, the words were surely spoken: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Her memory will be cherished, her love will be missed, and her legacy will never be forgotten.

Mercedes leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Patricia Bias of Houma, Louisiana; Carla (Dewey)Irvin of Patterson, Louisiana; Troy Clark (Carol) of Morgan City, Louisiana; Cheryl Jordan (Timothy) of Cary, North Carolina; Carol Johnson (Terrance) of Morgan City, Louisiana; Tina Clark of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Ashley Clark of Morgan City, Louisiana. She is also survived by her beloved brothers, Clarence Clark Jr. of Morgan City, Louisiana, and Nathan Emerson (May) of Gonzales, Louisiana, Mercedes leaves behind a loving legacy through her 11 bonus children, 22 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and 11 godchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.She also leaves to cherish her memory her sisters in Christ, Patricia Wilson, Elvie Gaskins, Brenda Pitts, Ann Poole, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, church family, and friends.
Preceded in Death
Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Clark Sr. and Carrie Clark; her son, Thomas Clark; her grandsons, Ronnie Clark and Nairobi Dewey; her granddaughter, Latoya Clark; her son-in-law, Kevin Bias; her sister-in-law, Hazel Clark; her maternal aunts, Maggie Scott and Elaine Bernard; her maternal uncle, Joe Clark; and her paternal aunts, Eva Price, Lucy Clark, and Sophie Clark.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in knowing that Mercedes has entered into eternal rest. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will remain with us forever.
